Owner/Operator of the Apex North/Coop Trained Partnership
Cory Cooperman joined The Apex Wrestling School in the Spring of 2019, when he partnered to create the Apex North/Coop Trained facility in Mahwah, New Jersey. Cory’s extensive coaching career prior to the Apex North/Coop Trained venture is highlighted by the time he spent as an assistant coach at Cornell University. While at Cornell, Cory worked directly with multiple NCAA champions, World champions, and Olympians, and helped the Big Red crown 12 All-Americans and 14 first-team All-Ivy selections.
As a student-athlete, Cooperman was a four-year varsity letter-winner who competed in both the 133 and 141 pound weight classes at Lehigh University from 2001-2005, where he also earned a degree in Psychology. As a Mountain Hawk wrestler, he compiled a 99-12 record, including a 65-7 dual meet mark, and is ranked 12th on the school’s all-time wins list, with the fifth-most dual victories in Mountain Hawk history. In his final year at Lehigh, Cooperman posted 6-1 record with five bonus wins at the NCAA national tournament, en route to a third-place finish and All-American accolades for the second straight year, finishing with a 28-2 mark. He also finished seventh at the 2003-04 NCAA tournament at 141 pounds, won three individual EIWA titles, and led the Mountain Hawks to the EIWA team crown all four of his seasons.
An All-American at Blair Academy, Cooperman amassed a 181-13 career record, including a 126-1 mark over his final three seasons. He won four prep school national titles and was a two-time Beast of the East and three-time Iron Man champion. He placed second at the junior nationals in freestyle and third at the 1999 Cadet Nationals.
Cory currently resides in Pompton Lakes with his wife, LeAnne, and sons, Caden and Cameron.
Cooperman’s proudest moment as a wrestling coach: “When I was an assistant at The University of Illinois (2011-2012) and we reached the Final Four by defeating Cornell in their home gym…that was a lot of fun”
