Joseph “Captain Joe” Cunningham

Apex South Instructor

Joe Cunningham became part of The Apex Wrestling School program after enrolling his two highly successful youth wrestling daughters, Brynn and Keira, at Apex South.  After having Brynn and Keira train at Apex South for a period of time, Cunningham began volunteering his time assisting in the youth wrestling classes.  He has since become an integral part of the success of Apex South’s youth training program.

As a high school student-athlete, Cunningham was a two-time district champion for Audubon High School in Audubon, New Jersey, winning titles at 215 lbs. in 2003, and at Heavyweight in 2004.  Since that time, Cunningham began and is now the owner/operator of his own contracting business, JK Construction, which is known as one of the most reputable contracting businesses in the Cape-Atlantic area.

Cunningham earned the moniker “Captain Joe” due to his repute in the commercial fishing world.  He is a popular charter captain, and one of the most successful and award-winning inshore and offshore fishers of Tuna, Shark, Swordfish, Striper, Sea Bass, and Flounder on the southernmost New Jersey coastline.

Joe currently lives in Sea Isle City, New Jersey with his wife, Kelly, and three daughters, Kaylee, Brynn, and Keira.

Cunningham’s proudest moment as a wrestling coach: “Watching both of my daughters win New Jersey state youth wrestling titles on the same day”
